On Wednesday, June 23 Metanomics began hosting a series of Master Classes, beginning with 3D Content at the Metanomics Main Stage in Second Life. You can watch the show at the top of this page.
Remedy Communications CEO Doug Thompson, known as Dusan Writer in Second Life, hosted the first Master Class series at 12pm PST on Wednesday, June 23. The idea of the Masterclass is to bring together some top virtual world talent to give viewers some insight into the art and discipline of things like 3D content development and immersive story.
The June 23: Metanomics Masterclass on 3D content included Fleep Tuque, Reed Steamroller and Gianna Borgnine
Dusan interviewed guests on the process of creating 3D content for virtual worlds. For those of you who ARE content developers, it was a good chance to get into a discussion on the ’state of the art’, the impact of mesh imports, and the development pipeline.
For others, it was an introductory overview that will give some insight into the creative, decision and execution process of creating environments and objects in virtual worlds.

Chris Collins (SL: Fleep Tuque) has used the Second Life platform extensively since its public beta in 2003, and is keenly interested in the educational, cultural, economic, and political potential of virtual worlds.
She is an IT Analyst in the UCit Instructional & Research Computing department at the University of Cincinnati, where she currently manages the campus-wide podcasting and Second Life projects, and serves as the Second Life Ambassador for the Ohio Learning Network, a consortium of 80 colleges and universities in Ohio.
In her free time, she serves on the board of AvaCon, Inc., a non-profit organization that manages the annual Second Life Community Convention, and is the founder and Executive Director of the Chilbo Community, where she resides in the Chilbo sim in Second Life.
Fleep holds a BA in Political Science and often presents and writes about the use of virtual worlds and social/web media in education. She blogs informally on these topics at http://fleeptuque.com

Kimberly Winnington (SL: Gianna Borgnine) is the owner and CEO of Sand Castle Studios, a company dedicated to helping organizations maximize the full potential of virtual worlds and social media by creating interactive, social, and 3D experiences.
For the last 3 years, Kimberly has helped SCS clients stay ahead of the curve, and is a respected resource for information on current and developing trends, social media, and immersive experiences. She has worked on such projects as the California Legacy Project with Santa Clara University, PBS Frontline’s Cap and Trade experience with The Center for Investigative Reporting and USC, and NESIM, a Nursing Education Simulation which is currently being used by several universities in-world.
She received her BA in Psychology and Criminal Justice from the University of Delaware. She currently resides in Newark, Delaware where she raises puppies to become Seeing Eye dogs in her spare time.

Reed is originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He grew up in Hampton, VA. From the time he was old enough to hold a crayon, he has been interested in expressing himself through art. His first exposure to the digital medium came in the form of MS Paint. When he was 15, he stumbled across a computer program named Adobe Photoshop.
Shortly thereafter Reed began working with Quake and Quake II level editors, such as Quark. This was, at the time, something analogous to building in Second Life. At the age of 18, planes flew into buildings. Two months later, Reed enlisted in the United States Army as a Network Switching System Operator, a fancy term for making phones and email work on the battlefield. In 2004, Reed, while still in the Army and stationed in Germany had his first experience with Autodesk Maya. He made a sphere, and then closed Autodesk Maya.
In 2006, after two tours in Iraq and nearly 3 years over-seas, Reed was honorably discharged from the Army. A few months after this, he was introduced to Second Life, a new forum for his love of digital art. It wasn’t long after this introduction that Reed realized the potential of the new platform and decided to take his love of the digital medium, and 3D software specifically, more seriously. After deciding to partner with Gianna Borgnine, Reed co-founded Sand Castle Studios.
