Two years ago, “Electric Sheep Company was one of the premier content creators in Second Life, responsible for high-profile corporate builds and events, such as CSI: NY. Earlier in 2008, they announced their intention to develop a flash-based virtual environment of their own, Webflock. Hear CEO Sibley Verbeck talk about the fortunes of ESC after Second Life, and the future of Webflock, which hosts the new virtual presence of the Showtime series ‘The L Word’. Sibley Verbeck is the founder and CEO of The Electric Sheep Company and is responsible for overall company strategy and management. Sibley has been recognized as a thought leader in the virtual world industry, is a frequent speaker, and blogs occasionally about industry events and trends [add link]. He is a co-founder of the Virtual Worlds Roadmap [add link], which aims to move the industry forward by documenting analysis on virtual world applications, their timeframe, and technological and business barriers. Sibley is frequently interviewed in leading technology publications and news outlets such as The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The Today Show, Information Week, CNet, Los Angeles Times, Reuters, and the BBC for his perspective on the business of and technical innovation for virtual worlds.
As a former Chief Scientist of StreamSage, Inc. and Comcast Online, Sibley has been a leading researcher in advanced computational linguistic and statistical techniques for analyzing audio, video, and text. In January 2001, Sibley received an award from the Washington Techway Magazine as one of the top young technology executives in the DC area; in 2003 he was selected as one of MIT Technology Review’s top 100 technology innovators worldwide under the age of 35. He has been an invited speaker on topics ranging across virtual worlds, search, computational linguistics, Internet infrastructure, digital television, scientific publication, and undergraduate science education. Sibley is involved with the I Do Foundation, the Acceleration Studies Foundation, and the Journal of Young Investigators.
