Bjorlyn Loon: IBM ON VIRTUAL WOLRDS: http://www.ibm.com/virtualworlds/innovationinvirtualworld.shtml
Bjorlyn Loon: ZHA'S VIRTUAL MUSINGS: PROTOCOL, SOFTWARE, TRUST & WORLDS http://zhaewry.wordpress.com/2008/08/01/protocol-software-trust-and-worl...
Saitek Blanco: Thnxs
Malburns Writer: Dusan Writer is online is someone can "God" him in !!!!
Nany Kayo: losing in the sense that there is little reason to move back, so it becomes important for it to be very easy to maintain multiple accounts.
Scott Tureaud: LL just have man decades of investment ahead of new players. who knows where SUN and Google will end up.
Tao Takashi: the next world! ;-)
Segun Ohtobide: :))
Segun Ohtobide: Sweet!!!!!
Be Ewing: /Internet 2.0 is true
Tao Takashi: This was asked at the Q&A with the lively guys
Tao Takashi: and they said that they might look into it but there is nothing going on right now
Pavig Lok: there's still seats available at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Outreach/97/139/31 if you have a friend trying to get in
Balpien Hammerer: QUESTION: Do you see the architecture and protocols drifting, or, worse bifurcating by a larger player in the world?
Segun Ohtobide: lol
Be Ewing: /don't comment :)
Jacek Antonelli: A Google spy? o_O
Phelan Corrimal: my concern is that all these platforms turn into what happened with Unix and CORBA --- essentially a very good idea for ubiqutous access to a standard that everyone decided they wanted to uniquely control and destroying any possible benefit in the process
Tao Takashi: see http://mrtopf.de/blog/secondlife/worldofsl/google-lively-qa/
Peter Krogstad: I want to thank Roos Renyolds from IBM who is a virtual world evangelist and who keeps me informed
Bjorlyn Loon: significant to mention all the "public interest" contributions that have happened here
Olando7 Decosta: /me looks around tries to find out who works for google
Be Ewing: /individuals would
Tammy Nowotny: I am a Google Adsense/Adwords affiliate :-)
Phelan Corrimal: The internet is no longer the network
Azwaldo Villota: /me wonders if we're all actually working for Google
movies1963: QUSTION when is Linden Lab going to launch an IPO once you get this working?
Be Ewing: /have to run :)
bartelby Pegler: /essentially Internet 2.0 is a good analogy, I might extend it a bit, in that internets are 2D (point to point) whereas this add a new tier, private spaces, individual spaces, corporate spaces, education spaces...
Buffy Beale: /QUESTION: What happens if gridhops increases bullies arriving in SL, will you pull the plug?
Segun Ohtobide: Aspirations worth acheiving! :))
Bjorlyn Loon: ZHA'S VIRTUAL MUSINGS: PROTOCOL, SOFTWARE, TRUST & WORLDS http://zhaewry.wordpress.com/2008/08/01/protocol-software-trust-and-worl...
Salem Sella: QUESTION... Are there contingency plans for any misstep that may occur of is this being done as a all or fail effort?
Celierra Darling: Real-time traffic?
Salem Sella: Sorry, let me correct the spelling of my question.
Scott Tureaud: RP sims with a health meter attached already.
Fleep Tuque: (Aside from this conversation, but in thinking about "building another layer on top of the internet", I HIGHLY recommend watching Kevin Kelly's "Predicting the next 5,000 days of the internet" - he does not mention virtual worlds at all, but many here will likely get a lot of interesting thoughts about how VWs will play into the scenario Kelly sees.)
Scott Tureaud: well as sever code instead of LSL
Salem Sella: QUESTION:Are there contingency plans for any misstep that may occur or is this being done as an all or fail effort?
Phelan Corrimal: URL Fleep?
Coffee Service (Click for a cup): gives a cup of hot coffee to Miyagi Shan
Tara Yeats: Fleep: sorce for Kevin's item?
Tao Takashi: I basically see a lot if separate services connected by your identity via OAuth and XRDS and OpenID and some of them might be virtual worlds components
Farqot Gustafson: @Fleep Tuque: Do you have a URL?
Coffee Service (Click for a cup): gives a cup of hot coffee to Peli Dieterle
movies1963: So why not just do that on a private sim
Fleep Tuque: (Getting the link now sorry!)
Phelan Corrimal: Full APA citation please Fleep? :-))
Farqot Gustafson: NP
Fleep Tuque: (Browser draggin!)
Phelan Corrimal: j j/k :)
Bjorlyn Loon: /me waves at Tao, the python harnessing guru, I hear!
bartelby Pegler: hee
Balpien Hammerer: oooo, 18 months.
Fleep Tuque: http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/kevin_kelly_on_the_next_5_000_days_of...
Dirk Talamasca: Please say Tahiti
Nany Kayo: hostile customers ?
Tara Yeats: (/me always expects Fleep to have 16 URLs ready to paste! hehe)
Phelan Corrimal: in 18 months - looking back and wondering how we could be so far off today
Tammy Nowotny: many undustries have privacy requirements legally
Geo Meek: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDYCf4ONh5M
Saitek Blanco: QUESTION: Is a monetary standard "Lindero" envisioned.
Farqot Gustafson: @Fleep Tuque: Thanks!
Bjorlyn Loon: good question, Saitek
Phelan Corrimal: government will not buy into this environment without being able to have an environment which is essentially unassailable from outside sources.
Saitek Blanco: :)
Phelan Corrimal: academic institutions cannot talk to students about anything involving personal and confidential information over the public internet
Dirk Talamasca: He's is gonna say Tahiti next
Phelan Corrimal: Similar requirements would be placed on Doctors, Lawyers,
Fleep Tuque: I don't know about that Phelan, the Federal Consortium on Virtual Worlds seems to be plugging along, they are at least _looking_.
Segun Ohtobide: QUESTION: How can the average person get involved with Open GRID?
Phelan Corrimal: I intend to be in Fiji actually
G2 Proto: within 18 months we hope to have our High School projects like http://www.greenbush.org connecting to the Second Life grid from local OpenSim grids
Segun Ohtobide: last name is pronounced: OH-TO-BEE-DAY :))
Dirk Talamasca: Have your pool girls call my pool girls
Orion Raymaker: QUESTION: Will Linden Labs consider making their "standard" asset library available to other grids?
Fleep Tuque: And re: academic institutions, that's true. It's part of what makes all of this so tangled, legal restriction vary nation by nation, state by state, etc. Very complicated stuff.
camilla Yosuke: Do the grid servers, like osgrid for instance, have to be 'prepared' to communicate with the 'agent domain', or is this all handled by the 'agent domain' itself ?
Ashcroft Burnham: Has anybody ever considered an open currency protocol?
Segun Ohtobide: Ooooo Nice Question Orion
Auron Reardon: how do you ask a question?
Phelan Corrimal: @ashcroft: will never happen in the short term
Scott Tureaud: Lindens are currencish enough.
Ashcroft Burnham: How short a term - and what about the long-term? :-)
Auron Reardon: how do you ask a question?
Tara Yeats: Auron: type "question" in caps, followed by your Q, into chat
Auron Reardon: thanks tara
Phelan Corrimal: Currency is one of the ways in which governments hold control over their populations and anyone that tries putting forth a true 'currency' is essentially attempting to circumvent that control
Auron Reardon: QUESTION testing
Dirk Talamasca: /me applauds Zero
Ashcroft Burnham: Do you consider that legitimate control?
Tammy Nowotny: QUESTION: if other grids can use the L$, how do we prevent them from hyperinflating the currency?
Joaquin Zenovka: a benevolent technocraty
G2 Proto: great philosophy
Auron Reardon: QUESTION: to get adoption, doesn't there have to be several other compelling grids to go to?
Phelan Corrimal: All currency is based on the belief that it holds value - if the belief in a currency fails then so does the currency, but also so does the government that has established its control based on that belief
G2 Proto: we need testers, artists, scripters
Ashcroft Burnham: The thing is: the economy is key to SecondLife. OpenSim will never acheive anything other than marginal success until it has a currency. But how does one have a currency in a distributed system?
Fleep Tuque: QUESTION: Is there a point of entry into this process for those of interested in specifically the social/political/legal issues?
G2 Proto: Our grid plans need no currency as we focus on education
Dizzy Banjo: answer fleeps
Bjorlyn Loon: PROTECTING CONTENT ON AN OPEN GRID: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Protecting_content_in_an_open_grid
Ricken Flow: or on health/medical support
Bjorlyn Loon: PROKOFY NEVA’S SECOND THOUGHTS: http://secondthoughts.typepad.com/second_thoughts/2008/07/if-you-can-see...
Bjorlyn Loon: NEW WORLD NOTES ON SCALEABILITY: http://nwn.blogs.com/nwn/2008/06/is-windlight-he.html
Ashcroft Burnham: The other possibility is a competing virtual currency - "OpenDollar" anyone? ;-)
Bevan Whitfield: The Coming Second Life Industrial Revolution? - http://mises.org/story/2913
Bjorlyn Loon: AND
http://nwn.blogs.com/nwn/2007/12/half-a-million.html
Tao Takashi: pyogp status (slightly outdated): http://mrtopf.de/blog/secondlife/python-and-the-open-grid-protocol-statu...
Bjorlyn Loon: /me spends many Lindens at Shiny Things.
Tara Yeats: /me admires Bjorlyn's shoe closet
Dahlia Trimble: Ouuu Shiny Things! :D
Balpien Hammerer: The valueof currency is directly tied to its stability.
Balpien Hammerer: unless, of course, you are a currency day trader.
Phelan Corrimal: especially when the RISK API effectivelly restricts people from freely trading it
Bjorlyn Loon: yaaay whump!
G2 Proto: thanks Zha/Zero! Great work guys!
Strawberry Fride: thanks guys - great session
G2 Proto: Whump is great!
Balpien Hammerer: Zha, Zero, many thanks!
Whump Linden: Thank you.
Infinity Linden: lol
Rose Springvale: great job as always!
Malburns Writer: WooT
Sonja Strom: Very interesting, thanks!
Ashcroft Burnham: Interesting discussion :-)
Malburns Writer: - Whump!
Rose Springvale: yay ben!
Ashcroft Burnham: Aha, law!
Orion Raymaker: :D lol
Segun Ohtobide: Awesome awesome awesome!!
Ashcroft Burnham: Hmm, variable sound volume, difficult to hear...
JenzZa Misfit: wtg Whump !!!
Dahlia Trimble: W00t Zha and Zero! :)
Bevan Whitfield: great show Zero and Zha and Beyers!
Roxette Wise: Well done great show guys!!
Eshi Otawara: JenZZZZZZZzzzzzZZZZZzzzzzz.........*snores*
G2 Proto: I would like to see a new permissions system with maybe a checkbox and extra price to work on other grids
LifeFactory Writer: Viximo is developing content that can be delivered into multiple platforms.
Bjorlyn Loon: BENJAMIN DURANSKE'S WEBSITE: http://virtuallyblind.com/
Auron Reardon: QUESTION: how does protecting your content differ from DRM?
Roxette Wise: /me giggles at Eshi
Eshi Otawara: <3
G2 Proto: When I shop for stock photos there is an array of licenses to meet many needs
Aki Shichiroji: Great analogy
Eshi Otawara: /me gots robo-hooves! teePees? :D
Tao Takashi: probably makes it harder to read, too ;-)
G2 Proto: I am trusted not to abuse this and I do maintain that trust
Phelan Corrimal: I'm wondering why we keep trying to put more and more controls on supporting a copyright paradigm that is no longer or practically relevant. Instead of trying to develop more controls why aren't we redefining copyright
Aki Shichiroji: DRM does not necessarily equal copyright.
bartelby Pegler: amen, Phelan
Tao Takashi: like DRM makes music harder to listen to
LifeFactory Writer: How would you like to see it redefinede, Phelan and Bartelby?
LifeFactory Writer: *redefined
Nany Kayo: Whose laws in an international venue like this?
Auron Reardon: that's the point - DRM is obviously a failure
Ashcroft Burnham: Ahh, as to the cost of copyright suits - that is the use of an in-world justice system, with an in-world enforcement system.
Ashcroft Burnham: ;-)
Nany Kayo: but which jurisdiction applies here?
Dizzy Banjo: yes nany
Dig Denimore: applies where ?
Phelan Corrimal: i'm just sure just yet but currently we are headed towards a copyright civil war that is going to represent one of the largest paradigm shifts we will have seen as a society for the last 2000 years
Dig Denimore: where is here ?
Dizzy Banjo: its a undecided governmental policy issue
Ashcroft Burnham: Everywhere... a huge mish-mash of contradictory ones, I imagine.
Nany Kayo: yes, can Native Americans run a casino here? Thats what I am asking
G2 Proto: perfect!
Nany Kayo: heee
Eshi Otawara: I have to abuse ChatBridge (Chase Marellan you are an advertising genius!)...it be my RL birthday tomorrow (28) and I demand presents! :D
Phelan Corrimal: lol
Fleep Tuque: Phelan, excellent point but the answer is "inertia" - the laws that exist NOW are the ones we must live under, and the political process isn;t addressing this as quickly as the technology is evolving.
Ashcroft Burnham: To be useful, one would have to have "transport to grid X" or "transport to grid Y", since grid X might be trustworthy, and grid Y might not be.
Nany Kayo: SL
G2 Proto: well said
G2 Proto: hurumph
Segun Ohtobide: NIcely Done!!
Joaquin Zenovka: copyright is going obsolete exponentialy thanks to moore's law
ChestnutRau: That was very helpful
bartelby Pegler: happy b-day essi, sorry we cant sing it, its copyrighted
Ashcroft Burnham: Silence...?
LifeFactory Writer: I am not sure how one redefines IP. One either owns one
Dirk Talamasca: Excellent show this week. Great work!
Eshi Otawara: hahahah
Sonja Strom: Maybe he's stunned.
Tammy Nowotny: Second Life already is a lot like an Indian reservation... we are both part of the uSA and other nations and partially a nation unto ourselves
LifeFactory Writer: owns one's creations or not...
Phelan Corrimal: Silence - I guess Google has taken over
Balpien Hammerer: hmm. [x] transport, but to which digital certs?
Rose Springvale: smile
Celierra Darling: Can't hear anything...
Rose Springvale: it's not me?
LifeFactory Writer: the question seems more an issue of how to enforce IP rights.
Sonja Strom: no Rose, it's quiet
Ashcroft Burnham: I still can't hear anything.
Sean McDunnough: oops! Robert ducked out to the loo! :-)
Balpien Hammerer: oops... media is down.
Fleep Tuque: (Ben has way more faith in the open market than I do.) ;)
kathee Gibbs: no sound
Ze Novikov: all quiet here
Scott Tureaud: the website stream stopped to
Feminist Expedition: well...it is you rose... but we can't hear either...
Feminist Expedition: :)
Chimera Cosmos: show over :-)
Sonja Strom: haha
Rose Springvale: i kept freezing.. so wasn't sure. Ben tends to leave everyone speechless :)
Nany Kayo: Well, we get casinos on the rez
Ze Novikov: lol
Ashcroft Burnham: LOL - Rose!
Olando7 Decosta: there is a silent meditation, but that is at SL buddhists
Fleep Tuque: (dead silence)? Was that the end of the show
kathee Gibbs: LOL
Latha Serevi: "Be-well them for me, please, Bjorlyn"
Segun Ohtobide: Phelan... thats fine tho.. let them take over and become a giant... Then we can brake them up later and share the parts with the world.
Ashcroft Burnham: Ahh, the delightful "techincal difficulties" slide - but no generic music?
LifeFactory Writer: Unless one wants to suggest that individuals give up their rights to IP, which I certainly would not support.
Chimera Cosmos: Hi to everyone from Sydney at 6 AM :-(
Scott Tureaud: http://streams.slcn.tv/live.mov
Balpien Hammerer: :-) create a rez SIM and the emeral queen buldings shall rise.
IYan Writer: ouch Chi
Scott Tureaud: streams tend to be better when not going through SL
Dizzy Banjo: no audio from beyers
Phelan Corrimal: @Fleep -- yep - inertia is a problem. The issue I see however is that we have two groups of people that don't see each other's side. They are claiming to listen and then not doing anythign to really come to grips. It will end in tears and within the next 10 years I think.
Tammy Nowotny: /me claps
Sonja Strom: yay
Olando7 Decosta: he is back
Rose Springvale: i guess .. ah, here they are!
Sonja Strom: /me claps
Balpien Hammerer: estoppel... ooo!\
Zero Linden: yes
Phelan Corrimal: @Segun: You mean like AT&T who is now reforming into the mega giant they use to be? :-)
Zero Linden: Thank you Ben- that was wonderfuly clear
Troy McLuhan: Today's program was broght to you by the word "estoppel" and the number 9
Eshi Otawara: *note to self* don't eat turkey breast before Metanomics, or you will wake up at the end wondering why you have keyboard indents in your face...
Dizzy Banjo: god.. lol
Phelan Corrimal: estopple?
Segun Ohtobide: lol Phelan
G2 Proto: great event thanks Metanomics, Zha, Zero, Ben
JenzZa Misfit: Eshi ! zing ! lol
Balpien Hammerer: that was the one legal term brought up in the last talk.
Segun Ohtobide: true... Yes but so much has come from AT&T
LifeFactory Writer: Thank you Everyone at Rockcliff for coming. Enjoy your day!.
Tao Takashi: I bet it's the Second Life Grid (TM) ;-)
Pedro Kaufmann: Ciao phelan!!! nice interview!!
Olando7 Decosta: yes, thanks Zha Zero Ben and Beyers! and those making this possible!
IYan Writer: bye Life, bye all
Ricken Flow: /me claps
Zotarah Shepherd: Great show!
Sonja Strom: ***** APPPPPPPLLLLAAAUUUSSSSEEEEEEE***********
Fleep Tuque: /me APPLAUDS!!!

Jamie Palisades: /me smiles, claps
Olando7 Decosta: /me applauds
Sonja Strom: ***** APPPPPPPLLLLAAAUUUSSSSEEEEEEE***********
Phelan Corrimal: Thank you everyone at Metanomics - wonderful discussion
Rose Springvale: smiles.. well done!
Segun Ohtobide: WooT
Ashcroft Burnham: Worthwhile.
Balpien Hammerer: Excellent talk.
camilla Yosuke: Thanks Rose :)
Eshi Otawara: :D
Rose Springvale: you are all welcome to stay for cake and coffee and chat...
Tara Yeats: LOL Troy!
Rose Springvale: and we just got a new sim delivered here
kathee Gibbs: TY ALL GREAT SHOW...INTERESTING
Chimera Cosmos: Yea! Sorry to sleep through the beginning, but great finish!
Ashcroft Burnham: Ahh, I love the credits ;-)
Ze Novikov: it was
Rose Springvale: so feel free to wander around and see what CDS is up to!
Phelan Corrimal: thank you all for coming by Rockcliffe for the Metanomics discussion
Thursday Xu: Thanx!
Segun Ohtobide: The diverstiture of 84 brought a lot the world of computer as we know it
Roxette Wise: /me claps
Buffy Beale: Yayyyyyy, thank you great show!
Phelan Corrimal: We now return you to your regularly scheduled workday
Azwaldo Villota: howdy, Geo
Geo Meek: :-)
Segun Ohtobide: I think a lot comes out of the contraction and breakup of a company.
Segun Ohtobide: Thanks this was very good.
Jacek Antonelli: Thanks again Zha, Zero, Ben, and Beyers! Great show :)
Phelan Corrimal: AT&T apparently managed to make the case after 9/11 that their break-up was a bad idea so hence they are now aquiring all the parts they were forced to split up
Dizzy Banjo: thanks everyone that was very interesting :)
Tao Takashi: OMG, my silly backchat!
Fleep Tuque: Zha, you'll be at SLCC I hope?
Fleep Tuque: And Ben?
Segun Ohtobide: thanks again Phelan
Segun Ohtobide: great show.
Fleep Tuque: Oops Ben is heading out
Pavig Lok: can hear you... you sound fine
Phelan Corrimal: You are welcome Segun :-)
Pavig Lok: yep
Sonja Strom: hi Rain
Zha Ewry: Don't know yet, it's a schedule mess, but I'm working on it
Tao Takashi: /me wishes he would be at SLCC..
Fleep Tuque: Darn Tao you aren't coming?
Zero Linden: well all - I'm off!
Tammy Nowotny: great show
Farqot Gustafson: Thank you, Zero!
