New Media Consortium is a New Event Partner

I am pleased to announce that the New Media Consortium will be joining as an event partner for Metanomics on an ongoing basis.

The New Media Consortium (NMC) is an international 501(c)3 not-for-profit consortium of nearly 250 learning-focused organizations dedicated to the exploration and use of new media and new technologies. NMC Brochure preview NMC member institutions are found in almost every state in the United States, across Canada, and in Europe, Asia and Australia. Among the membership are an elite list of the most highly regarded colleges and universities in the world, as well as a growing list of innovative museums, research centers, foundations, and forward-thinking companies.

The consortium serves as a catalyst for the development of new applications of technology to support learning and creative expression, and sponsors programs and activities designed to stimulate innovation, encourage collaboration, and recognize excellence among its member institutions. Second Life is only one of NMC's many initiatives and projects, but they have been very active, building numerous islands for educational institutions. (psssst! members get a discount.) The NMC group in Second Life boasts over 1500 members, while the NMC guests group has over 3,700! (A quick cruise through SL's search function revealed only one larger group...and it was called "Free Sex.")

Our next event is likely to be of particular interest to NMC members, as we are going to be discussing "serious games"--games whose primary purpose is other than entertainment (e.g., instruction, research, etc.). Details to come shortly...but I look forward to working with the NMC community.
